MPH

Some might ask, “Why NASCAR?” Well , hear me out…

It's because it's what we love. It is who we were born to be. And here we sit, thinking. Well, I’m not a thinker. I’m a driver. I’m a doer. And that's what I need to do. I don't need to think. I need to drive. I need speed. I need to go out there, and I need to rev my engine. I need to fire it up. I need to grab ahold of that line between speed and chaos, and I need to wrestle it to the ground like a demon cobra! And then, when the fear rises up in my belly, I use it. And you know that fear is powerful, because it has been there for billions of years. And it is good. And I use it. And I ride it; I ride it like a skeleton horse through the gates of hell, and then I win. I WIN! And I don't win for anybody else. I win for me, you know why? Because a man (or woman) takes what he wants. He takes it all. And we’re men (or women), right? Aren’t we? AREN”T we?

This is about the 12th attempt to get a pic of me in the air... and what you don't hear is "GO SADDLER!" (that's the guy on my bright blue shirt).

An airborn pose like that deserves to be seen. Woo woo Adam!

Chris' face says it all!

Two words: Hottie Alert.

Crowell kids who have caught the fever.

True blue real NASCAR fans. I was honored to be wedged inbetween them.

Winter Wonderland

You see these gloves I'm clinging to (thanks for the great b-day present Matt) ...well that's because they've been my new best friend. They've kept my hands nice and warm snowshoeing in Island Park, boarding through 3 1/2 ft of powder at Targhee, snowmobiling & tubing at the sinks, shoveling my 4 mile long driveway, venturing to Deb/Jess's cabin & night snowmobiling (working in waist deep snow to get Nate & I unstuck-whoops), playing at the Willis cabin, digging through a 8 ft mound of snow to free Matt's truck/trailer, and who know's what else is in store. As Discover Card says, PRICELESS! Evidence below...

On top of Mary's summit at Targhee- about to hit 3 1/2 ft of powder! Amazing!

My roomie - Miss Katie Lundquist. Behind her is a world of fun!

Kind of hard to see what's going on- a lovely cell phone shot- but that's Matt's truck/trailer locked in by a 8 ft wall of snow! That took us a little while to dig out - thanks Mr. Snowplow man.

Celine Dion- a guilty pleasure resurfaces

Who knew I loved Celine Dion?
Heavens, I'd even forgotten I'd loved her. At least until we were driving down to the NFR in Vegas and our car was bouncing/seeping with her classic hits... "IF...YOU....ASKED me to..." I believe Matt might have even sung along.

I was feeling just like I'd found a $10 bill in my old jeans - surprised, excited, rich. So when Stacie suggested going to her concert, we acted like giddy school girls. We ran to the ticket office and not only bought passes for two but also sparkly Celine Dion shirts. What a great performance - the music and dancers were amazing. Really. It was more of a theatrical performance with Celine Dion as the vocalist. But even better than the show was feeling so excited about something and discovering one of my new favorite songs, Taking Chances. Yes, you all probably think its cheesy/lame, but I like it. At this point in life, dating has kinda taken its toll on us single folk , and I like hearing we need to take a chance on love.

Taking Chances
Don't know much about your life.
Don't know much about your world, but
Don't want to be alone tonight,
On this planet they call earth.

You don't know about my past, and
I don't have a future figured out.
And maybe this is going too fast.
And maybe it's not meant to last,

But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?

I just want to start again,
And maybe you could show me how to try,
And maybe you could take me in,
Somewhere underneath your skin?

What do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?

Love sucks

...love just sucks sometimes. It can rip your heart out. Who ever said "feeling" was a good thing? Huh? Where is that person now?

Peru: The Sunflower Orphanage

The Sunflower....

My time at the Sunflower orphanage in Peru touched my heart in ways imaginable.
I never knew I could fall in love so quickly. The children seriously captured my heart. They were all so beautiful with their big white eyes, dark hair, and infectious smiles. When I asked 11 yr old Jason what his favorite day of the week was, he told me, “Sunday. Because it’s the day most important to God.” These children were spiritual giants…so humble and giving.

Although we worked so hard (digging multiple trenches, mixing cement, making mortar, hanging 800 pound gates, shoveling/transporting rocks, creating a cobblestone walkway, painting the bathroom ceiling while standing on the shower ledges, digging 3x3x3 ft holes in cement-like dirt; it was more of a spiritual experience than anything else. I felt like everything made sense there – life was simple and clear, it was easier to feel the spirit, and there was time to notice the stars. Although their circumstances are meager, I envy them for their way of life.

I can't wait to go back. And I start my Spanish classes on Thursday, so wish me luck.

Grandma McKinnon

My grandma was a legend. She really was. She taught me so much about life and love. She would always say, "You can never run low on love. The more people you love - the more it grows. " In my old age of 25, I've found that to be true.

Grandma Thelma would also teach a lot through song. For example, if anyone was ever having a hard time with the men in their life, she would break into song and sing...

"Hug him in the morning, kiss him every night.
Give him plenty loving treat him right.
'Cause a good man now days, is hard to find. "

As I was searching for all the words to this song, I found the rest of the lyrics to be rather interesting...it has a little bit of a different twist to it.

A Good Man by Brenda Lee

A good man is hard to find
You always get the other kind
Just when you think that he's your pal
You look for him and find him fooling around some other gal.

Then you rave you even pray
To see him laying in his grave.

So if your man is nice you better take my advice
Hug him in the morning, kiss him every night
Give him plenty loving treat him right
'Cause a good man now days, is hard to find.

A good man is hard to find
You always get the other kind
Just when you think that he's your pal
You look for him and find him fooling around some other gal.

So if your man is nice you better take my advice
Hug him in the morning, kiss him every night
Give him plenty loving treat him right.
'Cause a good man now days, is hard to find...
